Grantmakers as Partners: Developing & Cultivating Relationships with Funders

While grant proposals are a critical part of the foundation fundraising process, the proposal never stands alone. What's also critically important is relationships -- how a nonprofit organization communicates with donors and prospective donors in the interest of building philanthropic partnerships. This seminar will provide insight into the grantseeking and grantmaking processes, focusing on the many opportunities for communication between grantseekers and potential funders from the start of the relationship to the grant award -- and beyond. Participants will learn best practices for initiating contact with potential funders; planning calls and meetings, including site visits; and effectively communicating with funders while proposals are pending. The session will also provide important insights on successfully managing "life after the grant," including: Understanding the grant relationship Tips for engaging the funder during the life of the grant Best practices in managing the reports and communication required to build long-term partnerships with donors, ultimately leading to opportunities for future support Following an overview by Carrie Miller, Regional Training Coordinator of The Foundation Center ? Cleveland, attendees will enjoy a highly interactive discussion with a distinguished panel representing various types of grantmaking organizations. Serving as moderator will be John B. Gest, Jr., Managing Director of the Northern Ohio Office of Philanthropy Ohio.
