Public policy is the action taken by government to address a particular public issue. Local, state, federal, and international government organizations all craft and implement public policy to protect and benefit their populations. But where and how do citizens and nonprofit organizations fit into the process? How do they influence public policy? The Center for Community Solutions will provide answers to those questions through Advocacy: Turning Words into Action. Participants will learn: The definition of advocacy and its value to their organizations A brief overview of the public policy making process The difference between advocacy and lobbying Effective advocacy strategies, including advocacy in the digital world How the process is experienced from the perspective of elected officials Participants will also receive an advocacy training manual. This program, a professional development opportunity of NEO ACTS (NORTHEAST OHIO ADVOCACY, COLLABORATION AND TRANSFORMATION FOR THE SOCIAL SERVICES), will provide an outstanding learning experience for board and staff of all types of nonprofit organizations.
