Government dollars are still a major source of funding for the nonprofit sector, despite some recent cutbacks. While some nonprofit organizations access government funds regularly, others may be intimidated by the thought of getting a legislator to pay attention to their programs, wading through long RFPs, managing complex paperwork, and filing required reports once government funding is secured. In this session, two experts will provide you with the information you need to assess whether government funding is right for your organization, and if so, how you can access federal, state, and local government funds. The workshop will cover the legislative and agency funding accounts and mechanisms, time lines, and criteria for success and offer case studies of nonprofit organizations that have secured government funding. It will also explain the government grant process, from identifying opportunities and assessing which RFPs are a good fit for your organization to writing compelling government proposals. Presenters Founder and principal of G2G, Liz Powell is an attorney with nearly 20 years of experience in government affairs, having served as legislative director for members of Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., political campaign organizer, and lobbyist. She and her bipartisan team of professionals work on the federal, state and local levels. Attorney Lauren Steiner is president and founder of GrantsPlus, an award winning company that provides grant writing solutions, including proposal writing and review, funding source research, program/project development, and grants office management. Both board and staff members are encouraged to attend this important program.
